Ombré Orchid Pillow

This piece was created and hand-dyed in western India. The orchid hue comes from lac, a scarlet resin harvested from indigenous Indian trees and plants. Since ancient times, lac has been used in India as a wood finish, for makeup, and as a natural dye for wool and silk. The name lac originates from the Sanskrit word laksha, which refers to a deep red dye. Lac can express a range of colors, from crimsons to burgundies to deep purples.
