Ombré Table Runners

Ombré Table Runners

These pieces were created and hand-dyed in western India, using a sophisticated two-dye bath process to extract the soft, delicate hues. Our artisan partner's mainly female team masters this technique through long practice and continuous experimentation.

Dimensions: 14" W x 18" H  100% Linen fabric.

Ochre: Extracted from repurposed marigold flowers from Hindu temples and onion peels from local vegetable markets, the dyes can express a range of colors, from shades of gold and dark amber to rich mustard.

Berry and Blush: The blush hue comes from the roots of madder, a plant that can be traced as far back as the Indus Valley civilization and is an ancient source of vegetable dye for cotton, leather, wool and silk. Long coveted by monarchs across Central and South Asia and Egypt, madder-dyed cotton has even been found inside pharaohs' tombs.

Fig and Fog: The fog and fig hues comes from the pomegranate peel, used by dyers from Europe, Southeast Asia,  and India since ancient times. The pomegranate originated in Persia, then spread to the Mediterranean, Arabia, Afghanistan, India, and China.
