Collection: Kate Follett
Kate Follett is a Vermont-based landscape painter whose work reflects a deep intellectual and emotional connection to the natural world. After studying painting and design at Skidmore College and Amherst College, she initially pursued a career in writing, earning an MFA in fiction from Emerson College and working as an author and editor in educational publishing, with a focus on the natural sciences.
Returning to painting in 2014, Follett developed a practice influenced by expressionist landscape traditions, drawing inspiration from artists such as Emily Carr, Georgia O’Keeffe, and the Group of Seven. Her work explores the landscape not only as a visual experience, but as a space for reflection and interpretation—balancing structure, color, and a sense of place.
Based in southern Vermont, where she paints from a studio in a converted sugar house, Follett draws inspiration from the rural surroundings close to home as well as from her travels in the American West and beyond. Her work has been exhibited throughout New England, and continues to evolve as a thoughtful and personal response to the landscape.
