Kate Follett is a landscape painter based in southern Vermont. She studied painting and two-dimensional design at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY and Amherst College in Amherst, MA, but ultimately chose to pursue writing instead of visual art. She received an MFA in fiction writing from Emerson College in Boston, MA, and became an author and editor in the field of educational publishing, specializing in the natural sciences. In 2014, she returned to painting, studying under Deborah Highberger at the Acorn Gallery in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Inspired by Emily Carr, Ed Mell, Georgia O’Keefe, and other “expressionist landscape” artists such as the Canadian Group of Seven, she began to focus even more deeply on the natural landscape, connecting with it intellectually, artistically, and spiritually, .
In 2016, she returned to her home state of Vermont, moving into a converted sugar house with an artist's studio above the garage. She paints the rural landscape around her home, and wilder landscapes from her travels in the American West and around the world.
