Vintage Ironstone Pitcher - H&R

Vintage Ironstone Pitcher - H&R

A striking late-19th-century white ironstone pitcher by the Onondaga Pottery Company of Syracuse, New York, dating to approximately the 1870s–1880s.

Nearly 13 inches tall, this substantial pitcher has a wonderfully sculptural form with a softly rounded body, subtle vertical fluting, dramatic elongated spout, and sweeping high handle. The restrained molded detail and crisp white glaze give it the wonderful architectural quality that makes early ironstone so appealing in collected interiors.

Originally part of a Victorian wash set, today its generous scale makes it especially beautiful filled with flowering branches, hydrangeas, garden flowers, or seasonal greenery. Equally handsome displayed empty on a kitchen table, console, mantel, or open shelving alongside pewter, wood, or other antique whiteware.

The underside bears the early Onondaga Pottery Company ironstone mark, associated with the firm’s late-19th-century production.
