Topographic Study - Chromatic Dwellings No. 19
Topographic Study continues Stanton Sears’ exploration of the house as both architectural form and sculptural object. Deep carved contours wrap around the structure, creating a rhythmic surface that recalls landscape elevations, flowing water, shifting terrain, or geological formations shaped over time.
Vivid planes of coral, turquoise, chartreuse, and cobalt animate the piece from every angle, while the carved surface captures light and shadow, emphasizing both movement and mass. The familiar silhouette of a dwelling remains present, yet the form feels transformed—less like a building and more like a landscape compressed into an architectural volume.
Hand-carved from solid wood and painted in bold, saturated color, this work expands the Chromatic Dwellings series beyond structure alone, inviting viewers to consider home, place, and memory through the language of form, color, and topography.
Part sculpture, part painting, and part architectural object, each work in Stanton Sears’ Chromatic Dwellings series is individually constructed and painted by hand.
