Antique Copper Basin with Brass Ring Handles, c.1900
Antique Copper Basin with Brass Ring Handles, c.1900
A beautifully aged antique copper basin distinguished by substantial cast brass ring handles and a wonderfully timeworn surface. Hand-worked copper, heavy riveted handle mounts, traces of verdigris, and an old soldered repair speak to decades of practical use and give the vessel the character so prized in early utilitarian pieces.
Likely dating to the late 19th or very early 20th century, this generously proportioned vessel was originally made for household or utility use. Today its warm copper tones and sculptural brass handles make it an especially handsome decorative object.
Use it on a table or console filled with pinecones, moss, gourds, ornaments, dried botanicals or seasonal branches, as a cachepot for a large planted arrangement, or simply leave it empty to showcase its form and patina. It would also be wonderful a large kitchen island as a collected antique accent, or hanging on a wall.
Original age-related wear, oxidation and historic repair are present and contribute to its character. Decorative use.
